Really cute idea for a destination wedding!!

Monday, January 26th, 2009

I really really wish I was this clever ~ and sometimes I can be ~ but in this case the idea (and picture) came from That Bride! The world is just full of creative people!  Oh, and to keep taking her idea, you can get a vintage suitcase for traveling back with cards, and put out Tybee postcards for people to fill out their well wishes on…

And while I’m at it and talking about cute, check out this website ~ Inky Pinky. I put a link to the site, after I typed in the search word ‘beach’. It’s got toppers, favors, candle holders… very cute, very unique. Martha is saying that fun cake toppers and COLOR are in this year ~ this site will help!!

My dream Christmas wedding

My Dream Christmas wedding

OK, so I’m already married, but a girl can pretend, right?

If I were to do a Christmas wedding, here’s what my dream would be:
My theme would be vintage Christmas, with a southern twist. My colors would be ivory, navy and periwinkle blue. I would tell my guests to dress casually elegant for a nice dinner wedding.

I would love a wedding at night (6:45 p.m.). It would be at a historic indoor location (here on Tybee I would pick the Hunter House), lit with lots of taper candles and white lights. I would have my ceremony and dinner in the same location.

My bridesmaids and I would arrive in an old Bentley. Then I would walk down the aisle to a classical guitarist playing Dance of the sugar plum fairy. My bridesmaids (2) would be wearing navy dresses (with periwinkle accents) and carrying ivory flowers, and I would have a vintage ivory dress, with maybe a little bling, and maybe a little wintery shawl.  I would have deep red roses with a little ‘bling’ inside them (and probably a crystal dragonfly, as they are my favorite bug).

Instead of an archway, I would take 2 – 4’ pine trees and light them with white lights and do a vintage garland and stand between them.  The groom and groomsmen would do nice black suits. The groom would have a red rose boutonnierre to match my bouquet, the groomsment white rose boutonnieres.

After the ceremony, I would play classic Christmas tunes by Sinatra, Bennett, Bing during the cocktail hour. White cosmos~ yum! ~ definite must, along with some warm chocolate and coffee drinks with choices of alcohol. I would have a cocoa bar for the kids.

I would mingle with my guests. We would have some passed hors d’ oeuvres (warm). I would probably hang a few white lantern balls and star lanterns for accents around the room (and lots of mistletoe!!). I think I would seat all the family at one long table, and then have my guests at round tables. (I found this picture and I liked the feel ~ it’s from marinmagazine.com).

My name tags on the tables would be vintage Santa gift tags, more of a Father Christmas type. I would have candles everywhere, and of course wine flowing. I would have poinsettias around, which the guests could take home. There would also be Christmas ‘poppers’, which were a treat long ago. I would have ivory tablecloths with ivory plates with silver rims. I would encorporate the beach by having white finger starfish scattered about.

For dinner, we would have a Christmas ham, green beans, wild rice, mashed potatoes, a nice salad with cranberries and walnuts… mmm. I’ll have to think about second choices for meat, maybe a nice carved roast.

For my Grandmother, I would have to have Grasshopper pie, and maybe grasshopper martinis. I think I like cupcakes the best, so I would want a cupcake tree with a variety of cupcakes ~ peanut butter chocolate, red velvet with cream cheese frosting, vanilla with a strawberry cream cheese frosting.

We would have some dancing, bring more Sinatra, Bennett and Bing into the mix. Maybe I would even have my groom learn a first dance with me. My favorite song, since I was a little girl, is a song by Burl Ives called “Lavender Blue (dilly dilly)” and that would be my first dance song.

My guests and I would mingle, dance and eat until it came time for the groom and I to be swept away in our Bentley ~ we would go and stay the night at an Inn on the beach, or maybe a cozy Inn in Savannah. My guests would go home stuffed and singing Christmas carols, and I would be very, very happy.

Thank you for viewing my dream Christmas wedding!

Another successful weekend!

Monday, October 6th, 2008

We had another successful Tybee Island wedding weekend! Wow! It was a beautiful weekend ~ the weather was perfect (about 80 degrees) it was sunny but not too hot, and the beach wasn’t too packed. Have I mentioned this is my favorite time of year on Tybee? Well, it is! :-D It’s gorgeous … no bugs biting, the flutterbys are migrating and landing on bridal bouquets ~ it couldn’t be more idyllic. (the flutterbys must be attracted to the bright colors… or maybe the sweet smelling brides!)

I also love this time of year for the fall colors ~ I’m very into orange this year, which, as it turns out, is the current vogue wedding color. You do a vibrant orange and a turquoise blue ~yummy!! (I am very ‘into’ do the opposite on color wheels, which orange and blue are opposites, and therefore perfect for each other, just like you two!).

About Tybee Island Wedding. com ~ We are so lucky to be a part of so many people’s special days ~ we do 300+ weddings per year because my husband, Stephen, and I work together so we don’t have to outsource a lot of our services. Officiant (usually Stephen, sometimes myself), chair and arch set up, coordination, are all things we do inhouse … and then we work with a lot of vendors we are very loyal with, so they give us great deals on beautiful cakes, fabulous catering, outstanding rentals … so we pass those savings on to you! We also live and work from our home on Tybee Island, so you’re never paying for our overhead or travel time. We just want you to get married on Tybee Island and enjoy your visit!
